Between Boston, DC, and Philly, which has better nightlife?

Criteria to consider:
Number or bars
Diversity of bars
Late-night dining
Public transportation and cheap, abundant taxi cabs
Things to do at night that aren't bars (poetry slams, open mics, theatre, drum circles, LARPing)

First I'd say not Boston right off the bat -that city rolls up it's sidewalks really early, and generally feels very quiet after 10 or 11pm.

Between the other two, it's fairly close - I actually enjoy DC's nightlife quite bit so I'll go with DC.

Criteria to consider: My take
Number or bars - Probably Philly
Diversity of bars - Probably Philly
Late-night dining - Ehh - Not totally sure would say CD/Philly followed by Boston
Public transportation and cheap, abundant taxi cabs - cabs - all PT DC/Boston/Philly in that order

On the last - in the neighborhoods smaller scale probably Philly then DC/Boston (splitting hairs) on Larger venues would say DC then Boston/Philly (splitting hair)

From a pure Bar standpoint would say Philly then Boston then DC

If lounges were the criteria might reverse it

To me another criteria would be scene restaurants - oh which today would say Philly - DC- Close then Boton sort of close

Philly.

Not only because Philly is much bigger and more populous but because it draws all those South Jersey boyz and gurlz ... and they are real party types!

DC
Philly
Boston

In that order. DC is more upscale. Also more diverse.

Aww. 3 People voted for Boston? That's nice.

But while we do have some great restaurants, this city isn't really known for its "nightlife".

I voted for DC.

Boston is easily third. I won't attack it, I'll just call Boston's nightlife a bit "tame." I just would like to understand why Boston is far behind other Atlantic seaboard cities in this regard.

Philly may have more than DC, but I don't think that equates to better.

As has been mentioned, DC is more upscale and diverse in its options. So I would say

1. DC
2. Philadelphia
3. Boston
