None of the fish I had were that great. When I was in Clearwater, FL though I did try alligator which was definitely interesting (I know it's not seafood but it's also not something you can find everywhere in the US!).
How did it taste? I'm interested in trying out gator someday whenever I travel back to Florida.

This is spot on - the West Coast has some of the best seafood in the world. The standards are very high.

Love the east coast seafood dishes overall all others. New England is my favorite with Chowder, Lobster Rolls, fried whole belly clams, stuffed quahogs. Maryland blue crabs and crab cakes, heck go down to south with Shrimp and Grits.

Being that I live in Atlanta the Gulf and Atlantic are both about 4 hours away. No bias here just voiced my objective opinion. Based on my personal opinion from my experience I rank them (East>West>Gulf) With that being said I could understand if other posters have a different preference or opinion.

Where do you live and what is your preference?

Let's just say I live by the Pacific.

I relieve my friends of about 60 lbs of their bluefin and yellowfin Baja catch a year, so you can guess my preference.

I prefer the Dungeness Crab, Pacific Salmon, Sushi, Oysters and Louie Salads of the West Coast to any East Coast seafood specialty. Also, Seattle and San Francisco are the two best seafood cities in the Country. The fish markets are better, the seafood is fresher, and there are better seafood restaurants overall. To me this isn't even close.
No. Just stop. Please.

In terms of raw materials:
1. west coast
2. east coast
3. gulf coast (though a gulf snapper is a sublime thing)

In terms of seafood preparation:
1. gulf coast
2. west coast
3. east coast

Best variety of oysters and you can eat them year round on the West Coast(specifically Pacific Northwest).

Not even going to pick one coast as the overall winner for seafood(they all have their highlights), but while Gulf oysters are big and usually cheap and New England oysters have that extra briny, salty taste I think the Northwest takes the oyster battle.
