Not just in how the city looks but overall in terms of vibe, type of people that flock to it, its economy, the atmosphere. Some says its like Portland others like Cali but which cities? Is it so unique it can't be compared to.

It appears you answered the question yourself.

These CD "comparison" threads always go the same way, it seems.

I figured that might be the case but I'm sure it has some similarities with other cities.

How would you then describe the city using the list of things above?

Portland, Prague, and maybe Nashville? A little of all those together.

Prague? Really? How so?

And Austin97 are you saying those cities look like Austin in terms of aesthetics, layout or do they have the vibe, similar culture and atmosphere? I don't assume Nashville to have that crunchy liberal vibe or tech economy. My guess is a mix of Portland, San Francisco and maybe Sacramento?

Size, vibrance, livability, large swaths of parkland, bohemian mores, and cultural relevance.

From Wikipedia - it sounds like the european version of Austin:

Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. It is the 14th largest city in the European Union. It is also the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava River, the city is home to about 1.24 million people, while its larger urban zone is estimated to have a population of nearly 2 million. The city has a temperate climate, with warm summers and chilly winters. Prague has the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union.

From Wikipedia - Austin:

Austin is the capital of the US state of Texas and the seat of Travis County. Located in Central Texas, Austin is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the fourth-most populous city in Texas. It is the fastest growing of the largest 50 US cities. Austin is also the second largest state capital in the United States, after Phoenix, Arizona. As of July 1, 2014, Austin had a population of 912,791 (U.S. Census Bureau estimate). The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 1,943,299 as of July 1, 2014.

Prague was way more walkable, and had an awesome waterfront just like Austin - not industrial like other cities. Lots of wandering souls are attracted to both cities.

nashville - size, music scene, relatively young (31.6 median age), burgeoning high tech, revitalized downtown, low cost living

indianapolis - about the same size metro area, revitalized downtown, younger average age, large state university, burgeoning tech, live music, low cost living

raleigh durham - great universities, young median age (32), lots of high tech, metro area about the same size, low cost living
