Hopefully a refreshing spin on the age old "best transit system" threads.

Currently in New York, and while I'd never make an argument that Boston's subway is more useful or efficient, I do think that it is cleaner than NYC's subway.

But is Boston's subway the cleanest in North America? Probably not.

Pittsburgh T light rail subway system through downtown and the Northside is very clean. Its small and easy to maintain though.

Clevelands Rapid subway system is older but pretty clean as far as the cars are concerned. The platforms outside of Tower City could use some work.

DCs Metro is the cleanest that ive seen considering the size of the system.

Atlanta's Marta was pretty clean as well.

New York has a dirty system even though it looks spotless compared to what it was in the 80s.

Right now NYC has installed a new cleaning program. Don't know if it's in effect but they are expecting great results.

I guess we won't know till the next decade how useful it is.

I'm just happy NYC will not built doofy museum style stations like you see in Europe.

Keep it the way it is thank you.

I've only ridden the subway systems in DC, Boston, Chicago, and New York. In terms of cleanliness, I'd rank them 1) DC 2) Boston 3) Chicago and 4) New York.

Definitely DC-but that'd be pretty bad if it wasn't the cleanest subway considering it's age and the fact it's our capital.

I do find Boston's subway system to be very clean despite being one of the oldest in the country. Usually in the US, the older subway systems tend to be more grittier and dirtier. Cities like NYC and Philly won't do well on a thread like this but I do think the PATCO has the cleanest subway stations in Philly.

Outside of the DC area, the only other subway system I experienced was the NYC Subway. You can take a guess which one is the most clean......
