Did I ever say anything about LA punching above its weight or its size? I dare you or anyone else to make the case as to why LA should be dethroned of its #2 status, and if you bring up federal government than shouldn't we also dethrone NYC of its #1 status?
Im not saying I agree with the other poster, but NYC has several economies, DC & LA both heavily rely on one industry
Is there a bigger industry/economy driver than the movie industry for L.A. though? (we can't monetize "Pop Culture" so I won't say entertainment as a whole). If you take that away (movie industry) where else is L.A taking the lead constantly or top 2?
I'm not arguing against you though, I believe L.A. still has the number 2 spot (overall) in the country and not just because of the population.

Entertainment is a small fraction of LA's economy, manufacturing and shipping/receiving dwarf the entertainment business.

It doesn't matter. LA is so strongly associated with entertainment that that is all it is thought to be. Similar to DC, it has tons of other industries also, but it being the capital it is thought to be primarily a government town. Plus, some studies i have read have stated that 1 in every 6 LA residents works in the creative industry, which is huge

So I guess what you're saying is that old stereotypes die hard, thanks for the knowledge check?

Well the link i posted shows entertainment is still the dominant industry in LA. but anyways, perceptions are everything, & the perception of LA is that it is a huge entertainment town. LA would not be the city it is today without Hollywood & everyone here knows it. If every company in the entertainment industry left LA the city would suffer

Maybe so, but not to the same effect as the Feds leaving DC, that would devastate it, and no entertainment is definitely not the dominant industry in LA.
