Springfield, MA will have "commuter rail" — 6 trains/day in each direction to towns to the north. It will either be an extension of or closely related to the future New Haven to Springfield rail (75 or so miles, passes through three metros, two almost the size of Honolulu, with Springfield definitely smaller). It's almost more intercity rail though and hard to compare with other rail projects. A bit of we have rail useful for passengers, let's run trains on them, rather than an all-new rail project.
