Atlanta's best buildings come between 1890-1950. I do agree that the burning of Atlanta didn't really seem that big of a deal when it came to urban fabric.
Atlanta didn't have the option to save those buildings because Sherman's army burned them all to the ground.
You said they weren't worth preserving, indicating that if Atlanta did have that option it shouldn't have preserved them. I disagree with that, but I do agree that Atlanta didn't really have a large historic stock to preserve at the time of the Civil War.
