Great Lakes - with all the Germans it's definitely beer country. Great Lakes Brewery from Cleveland, 312 from Chicago, are 2 of the more known ones that spring to mind, but there are a ton more around.
Whatever region produces the most wheat beers, Widmer Hef is one of my favorites so maybe the Northwest. SD has a great craft brew scene too but it seems like A LOT of IPA's which I can't stand. Hate Stone Brewery beers.
Funny, I'm the opposite. Love being a 10 minute walk from a Stone tasting room.
Tough one. I voted Great Lakes, but easily could have picked New England. Pacific Northwest would be the third choice. I've never been impressed with Oregon or Northern Cal beers, there are some good Washington ones.
Favorite brewery is New Glarus (WI).
Other ones I like: Berkshire Brewing Company (MA), Three Floyds (Indiana)
I'm not factoring in brew pubs.
The downfall of so much of the microbrew scenes is their addiction to hops. A good IPA is nice one in awhile, but our craft brew scene is being destroyed by people trying to outhop everyone else. It's a bad crutch and one that is the destruction of many microbreweries.
Haha, yeah I chose Great Lakes for Three Floyds alone. So many exceptional beers. Still a sucker for Alpha King though, that will always be my favorite. Love Russian River in CA as well, that is a close second for me.
Funny the only places I see beers from and drink them from and I go to brewery events regularly and buy craft beers at national stores all the time.. constantly looking at beer.. is WA, CA and CO. I know of zero beers from the region that is winning LOL My relatives live in WI and everytime I go back there and try to find craft beers they give me Shiner bock and they all drink Coors or bud. So I don't know where all these great lakes craft beers hide but they don't seem to be readily available to the general public . Name some!

Exactly - most of the renowned craft beers seem to be from OR, WA, CA, and CO, and maybe some from New England. I have no doubt the Great Lakes has some good craft breweries, it's just not usually associated with being a top craft beer region.

Sure they are, they're all over the place. Woodmans, dive bars, everywhere. Heck, even most gas stations have some good Wisconsin micro brews.
Where in WI do you go? Of course the big cities have specialty places, but smaller cities like La Crosse have some places where you can sample a hundred or so beers.
If you ever get to the Old Fashioned in Madison they have a list of a hundred beers JUST from Wisconsin.

One thing though, you have to be there to get it. They don't do national distribution. They did regionally for awhile, but they scaled back because they couldn't keep up with Wisconsin demand even after expansion. That is true for a lot of the best beers. Just like you can't get Heady Topper outside of Vermont and even that is a tough get... the good stuff ain't easy to acquire!
I voted for the northwest, where all the ingredients come from. Some favorites are Mac & Jack's from Redmond, WA (African Amber - tap only), Elysian Brewing from Seattle (Red, IPA), and Alaskan Brewing from Juneau with their Kölsch style Summer Ale and their alt style Alaskan Amber.
