He's got a point... Baltimore should be twice as strong as it is. If it truly were the flagship city for the state this thread wouldn't even be possible.

Yea but that Maryland half of the DC MSA alone has about the same populace as the whole Baltimore MSA and is more wealthy by a long shot.

It is indeed the flagship city of MD. The thread was made because of DC's close proximity to the state and having an influence on its adjacent suburbs in MD, which can compete with Baltimore's influence on the state to a degree.

The DC MSA isn't even half of MD when you take out Virginia. It only includes Calvert, Frederick, PG, Mogo, and Charles excluding Virginia. Without Northern Virginia and Montgomery the MSA isn't that wealthy compared to Baltimore's. The only reason why it slightly is higher is because of Montgomery. Don't forget that Howard county is part of Baltimore's MSA and is the 3rd wealthiest county in the nation, higher than Montgomery's.

The DC MSA counties in Maryland PG, Moco, Frederick, Charles, and Calvert make up more than 1/3 the states population just under 2.4 million. The entire Baltimore MSA is 2.7 million. And you saying the only reason the wealth is higher is due to Montgomery has nothing to do with the fact that it's not in the Baltimore MSA. PG is not more wealthy than Howard but still has a large portion of the states economy due to its population. Charles and Frederick counties are growing faster than any jurisdiction in the Baltimore MSA.

Charles County is restricted to only a little bit of development due to its abundance of natural resources and objections from citizens.
Will Charles County choose sprawl? - Greater Greater Washington

Baltimore County has just as high of a population as PG does with 800,000 plus residents. Also Harford, Anne Arundel are growing much faster than Charles and Frederick. As I said before without Northern Virginia and Montgomery, the DC MSA isn't really that big or stronger economically than Baltimore's. Not to mention the Baltimore MSA covers more than half of the state including Queen Anne's County on the Eastern Shore.

PG is approaching 900,000 and either way is growing faster than Baltimore County. The strongest counties in the Baltimore MSA are both smaller than PG and Montgomery. The primary business center in the state outside of Baltimore city proper are Prince George's and Montgomery. The county's are side by side don't you think they feed off each other? As a matter of fact Howard feeds off of its proximity to Montgomery and DC IMO as much or more than it does Baltimore.

University of Maryland is located in Prince George's, Six Flags, Maryland Agricultural Research Center, the new home for Maryland Department of housing just left Anne Arundel for PG. The FBI headquarters is most likely next. There is much more to it than Montgomery County.

If Howard feeds off Montgomery and PG more than Baltimore than why is it not in the Washington MSA? Your hilarious. Baltimore is the economic business capitol of MD. How is PG a business center? If anything its a commuter suburb. The only top business center in PG as of now is National Harbor which hasn't even filled up all of its office space leaving a lot of vacants. PG lacks a demand for business due to its close proximity to DC. Why do you think PG doesn't even have a decent mall? Baltimore having the International airport in its MSA gives it a much bigger advantage for Business. Baltimore County has Social Security Adm Headquarers, University of Maryland Baltimore, Center for Medicare and Medicaid, Towson University etc. Baltimore County has far more employers than PG. Anne Arundel has not only most of the State government offices, but also Fort Meade, Johns Hopkins Health System, Baltimore Washington Medical Center, BWI International Airport, Anne Arundel Medical Center, etc.

Oh and Six Flags?? Really man? They only get employees in the summer which are mostly High school kids. Give me a break!

I don't think people realize how much old and new money is in Baltimore County.
