I don't think any East Coast city can honestly be compared realistically to a West Coast city, and vice-versa.

Lol at the two Portlands

But I think Portland=Burlington would be a better match-up.

Not as crazy as the Philly-Bakersfield thing.

Weird thread.

There really isn't a West Coast version of Philadelphia hence the reason why it is very hard to compare it to West Coast cities. I do agree that comparing Bakersfield to Philly is a complete joke. Those two cities have nothing in common.

I'm an Angeleno, but my dad is from Brooklyn, so I've been to New York, specifically New York City. Seriously, I don't understand where people get the notion that these two cities are alike. The only major similarity I can think of is both cities have lots of residents.

Maybe San Francisco? They did steal our Market Street, trolleys and UPenn.

"George Hyde, a Philadelphian, may have suggested it be named after Philadelphia’s Market Street."

San Francisco's Municipal Railway, or Muni, bought a fleet of our trolleys at the bargain basement price of $12,000 each, and had them completely rebuilt at a cost of about $460,000 apiece. Keep in mind that new streetcars cost in the neighborhood of $1.5 to $2 million each. They are currently in use on San Francisco Muni's F line on Market Street, which stretches from the Financial District, through downtown to the Castro.
