I would say Savannah and Charleston with a small edge to Charleston (particularly around the college and Marion Square). Both downtowns voted against there states amendments but Charleston voted against it by a larger percentage. Also, the surrounding suburbs of Savannah are a bit more conservative than those in Charleston (which are more moderately conservative). Both cities are ahead of the others on the list though.
You missed my point entirely. If recognition of legal "gay marriage" is the definition of what makes a place "gay friendly," then there were ZERO "gay friendly" places in America 10 years ago. In other words, the absence of gay marriage does NOT make a place gay "un-friendly." That's the huge mistake people make. And once gay marriage becomes the universal law of the land, there will still be many places in this country where gays and lesbians will not be comfortable -- just as they always have. In reference to this OP, to declare that no place in the south can be "gay friendly" without gay marriage is pure and utter ridiculousness.

I'd think that Savannah has an edge on Charleston because Savannah offers domestic partnership benefits to city employees.

NYC is the gay mecca of the state and its where people think its the most tolerable place to be gay. To bad the other parts of NY are in the shadows of NYC.
