London Remains World

Market, Cost Per Sq. Ft., Q1 2014
11 New York-Midtown Manhattan $120.65
15 San Francisco-Downtown $108.00
22 Boston-Downtown $93.75
26 Washington DC-Downtown $85.67
29 New York-Downtown $82.55
30 Los Angeles-Suburban $82.49
46 San Francisco-Peninsula $68.31

I'm assuming that LA-Suburban is actually the Westside.

This looks pretty much like it has for 15-years now. NYC > SF or BOS > DC > LA > everybody else

Seems DC is the only one that bounces around much. At one point, during the depths of the recession, I believe DC actually had higher commercial rental prices than Manhattan. The DC boom is slowing down as govt spending slows and the tech/finance/professional services come back to life in the other cities.

Personally, I don't find that the worse trend in the world for DC if it makes downtown residential/mixed use development more financially viable. Although, long term DC will need to build up its private sector to offset some of the long term declines in the traditional industries (law/lobbying, trade associations, and govt: all of which are stagnate and looking to shed space/telework etc.).
