Two fairly different beach experiences. Do you prefer the boardwalk entertainment experience of the Jersey Shore, or the quiet serene barrier islands of the Outer Banks? Discuss the quality of the beach experience and why your choice suits you better for a beach experience.

Thing is, while NJ may be more known for the boardwalks thanks to popular culture (Jersey Shore the train wreck show anyone? ), there are far more beach towns that don't even have a boardwalk, rides, arcades, or anything like that. We have 2 large, well known national and state parks that are all beautiful, preserved beaches, dunes, forests, and wildlife - Sandy Hook (Gateway National Recreation Center) and Island Beach State Park, respectively. Then there are charming towns like Cape May, known for their age, architecture, and/or nice quiet beaches. Other towns like this include Mantoloking, Bay Head, Sea Isle City, Brigantine, Deal, Spring Lake, Avon, and more. NJ's whole beach scene is diverse. You can find anything, from amusement meccas to quiet, beautiful, untouched beaches.
For this, I vote the Jersey Shore.
While NJ's water is a bit colder overall than NC's, I've found the water to be bluer and clearer, and I like NJ's sand quality. Both are beautiful, don't get me wrong, and the Outer Banks are probably a more natural setting overall if you're comparing it to the whole length of the Jersey Shore, but as I've mentioned there are plenty of areas in NJ just like the Outer Banks when it comes to nature and beauty, untouched by boardwalks, rides, and amusement piers, etc.

This is what I LOVE about the Outer Banks. Such places have become such a rarity on the East Coast. The Outer Banks around Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Ocracoke, with the uncrowded beaches, miles of deserted sand dunes, clear and clean water, and landmark lighthouses are my idea of a perfect beach.

I voted Jersey Shore. It offers more variety than OBX. OBX is more of a place, imo, where you need to bring your people to have a good time rather than a place you can visit and just jump into things.
Maybe it's just me, but I found OBX to be thoroughly boring. There wasn't much to do beyond a couple of restaurants and bars. It was only enjoyable because there were about 15 of us staying in a beach house together.
He thinks he's too good for the so called "rednecks" that are non existent at the beach.
No different than the people who think the Jersey Shore is full of rowdy guidos who wear Ed Hardy and Armani and fist pump everywhere they walk.
