I've lived in both South FL (Boca Raton, 12 years) and North GA (Alpharetta, >1 year).
People in North GA aren't less laid-back than people in South FL, IMO. While people in North GA tend to be more outwardly friendly, approachable, and polite than people in South FL, they're a lot more superficial, too. There are lots more phony types in suburban Atlanta than suburban South FL--"Southern hospitality" is really only skin deep, IME.
Also, there lots more judgmental, "holier-than-thou" types in North GA, too, as most of GA is very Evangelical compared to South FL, which is mostly Catholic/Jewish.
Finally, since most decent, well-paying jobs in North GA--and GA in general, for that matter--are located in Metro Atlanta, the area is very corporate--lots of suits/business people, Type-A personalities, housewives dressed to the nines, upscale homes, expensive cars, etc. Truth is, unless you want to deal with horrid ghettos, you're pretty much relegated to the nicer areas of Metro Atlanta if you want to be gainfully employed *AND* live well/comfortably, so you'll no doubt have to deal with this element. Not much different from parts of South FL, esp. the part where I used to live, except there's a better chance folks in North GA earned their wealth respectfully and legitimately.
For those of us that have lived in both FL and GA, we know that it's really an apples-to-oranges comparison. Let me know if you have any more questions,
