No way. All the cities on the drunk driving lists are home to some of the largest public universities in the nation as well as some of the most youthful cities in the country. It makes sense seeing Austin and Los Angeles and other places on there.
Something interesting to think about, urban dwellers on this forum who love their little "no water" and "gas prices" theory can have fun defending why Chicago a supposed urban city tops the list. I am going to post on it later but gas prices in Houston are some of the cheapest in the nation, gas prices in Chicago, no not really. So an article claiming Washington DC or Chicago as most consumptive and priciest and time consuming cities for traffic. What does that say for an era where gas prices are "on the rise"?
Maybe if the clubs in CA would be open til 5 AM, people would stay around to sober up instead of chugging drinks right at 2 AM last call and driving home?
No way. All the cities on the drunk driving lists are home to some of the largest public universities in the nation as well as some of the most youthful cities in the country. It makes sense seeing Austin and Los Angeles and other places on there.
I can understand Austin, it is not just the students that are boozers, you guys top all the national lists for drinking. But LA?? SF?? SD??? SJ??? damn, why are all the big cities in California all religiously named? Ok, don't answer that. I am sure there is a thread about California's missions somewhere out there.

"San" means "Saint" i.e. Saint Francisco, Saint Diego, Saint Jose. "Los" means "the". "Angeles" means "Angels".
Most California cities/towns are named in spanish because like Texas, California was once part of Mexico/Spain.
The California missions are a large part of California as well as the Gold Rush.
The first California mission was started in San Diego and worked it's way up the coast.

It could be based on local gas prices, Chicago has the highest gas in the country. I'm sure the suburbs are awful. I've driven on the interstate around here a few times and it is definitely bad around rush hour.
DC and Chicago also have the 2 and 3 most used public transit in the country, but NYC has significantly higher usage so... probably why they aren't on there. I've seen gas here lately at ~3.60
Notice how Atlanta is not listed. Some posters/ATL bashers just lost credibility.
