Long Beach's issue is the pollution that stems from the massive ports and the breakwaters(?, I think that's the name of them) that basically help keep large waves within but at the same time means the pollutants have a much longer dwell time.

I'd go with Long Beach. Why? The beach.

Plus it's less crowded.

The funny things are that people are very often asked to not swim at the beaches of Long Beach due to pollution and Staten Island is technically slightly less dense.

I live in Long Beach, CA, and I can assure you that it kicks the believin' Jesus outta Staten Island every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

No comparison.

I try to avoid dramatic, categorical proclamations, but yeah. Beach cleanliness aside.

Even most folks in LA and OC have little clue about Long Beach.

By living in bubbles. I never really appreciated it until after having moved here.

Please. Knowing "where" and "what" do equate to a sufficient understanding of a place. That's my exact point. I've hosted/tour-guided so many friends from other parts of the metro around LBC and to a person, they invariably express surprise at how much there is to do and see.
