I would have thought the Bay Area is closer to NYC
Generally for the same space with similar amenities, I found the Bay Area (specifically SF and Berkeley though) much closer to LA (downtown-ish areas and westside) than NYC (Manhattan, western third of Queens, North and Northwest Brooklyn). I never had to scout for rent in Seattle, but from what I know from friends, it should be lower than the other three.
I lived in Seattle and now Los Angeles and Seattle was definately cheaper. One thing I find cheaper in LA than all three is public transportation. Subway and light rail rides are $1.50. Parking at subway and light rail stops where available is free. Culver City and Santa Monica Big Blue Bus fares are only $1.00.
