I'm considering moving to either Orange County NY or the Lehigh Valley in PA (allentown-bethlehem area). my question is, which area do you think will be more built up in the future, and which will be more integrated into the NYC area? right now it seems like the allentown-bethlehem area is busier, with more people and jobs. yet orange county is closer to NYC. so which one will be the more populated area?

Actually, both areas have about the same amount of people, considering that Orange County is in the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metro area. So, that may be something to consider as well.
^ very good point. however, i should have specified that i meant the monroe-goshen-middletown area specifically. not really interested in newburgh or poughkeepsie areas. how much potential does the monroe-goshen-middletown area have?

In terms of what? What exactly are you looking for in an area, city or neighborhood?
Just a densely populated area with jobs and things to do. More 'relevant' area u could say.. Between allentown-Bethlehem or Monroe-Middletown
Keep in mind that you are comparing a county to a metro area/ region with more than one county.
Also, what about college towns as a possibility?
