Georgia is now considered Upper South?
This thread is completely off the rails.

To me, the whole idea of presenting 'Upper' and 'Deep' South as a cultural delineator is bogus anyway. A more accurate one would be the Fall Line, which defines the transition between the Piedmont/Mountain South and the Coastal Plain South. The cultural differences between these two are far more profound.

Atlanta is north of the Fall Line.

That doesn't make it Upper South.
Anyway, my last statement was with regard to using such divisions as markers of cultural differences. It simply doesn't work that way, and the mass confusion exhibited on this thread should be testament enough to that.

They are essentially the same thing, with overlapping influences found in several fall line and Piedmont cities.

Deep South = Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina

Upper South = Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia

Thank you. Glad to have cleared up the confusion.
Wow, you nailed it! Congrats I don't know why this so hard for some people
