What happened was the whole thing was based off no public money used, then they released the plan which would need the rail yard around South Station to be completely reconfigured and cost a bunch of money and the media jumped on it and made an unpopular idea more unpopular. And honestly the Olympic Staduim is suppose to be in South Boston, that neighborhood fought off the Red Sox and Patriots relocation to their area, how would they be receptive to a massive project for a bunch of tourists?

To be honest the answer is clearly L.A or D.c but L.A had it twice already while most other u.s cities never hosted so your gonna hear the bashing on L.A of course. I think with the revitalization process downtown & all the new subways & football stadiums being built,The streetcar & alot more other things that Los Angeles should host the 3rd time but if not give it to San Francisco or D.c

More and more cities are realizing that the massive cost and disruption associated with the Olympics is simply not worth it. I live in the city of Boston and would not have a problem hosting the games, so long as the bulk of it is not paid with public money. There are plenty of other projects and things that could use money that would have a longer lasting affect on the city and metro area.

Just look at what some of the venues from 2004 in Athens turned into. The IOC is having a tough time fielding bids for the 2022 winter Olympics.

I'd like everyone to read this fantastically condescending op-ed about the Olympic opposition, in the Boston Globe, owned by John Henry (who is part of Boston 2024)

some gems
we will throw tantrums like 2-year-olds. Maybe it looks like a freak show to you. To us, it’s all normal.
If we act up again — oh, and we will — remember what sets Boston apart
Stingy Bostonians also worry that taxpayers will be on the hook if costs go over budget.

who would think people would be worried about wasting billions of dollars on a bunch of foreign millionaires who would be in town for two weeks? stingy scrooges that's who.
