Intersting that would impact LA - or even my hometown with mot luxury retailer in KOP or Cherry Hill - not that with thee Philly would eba top 5 - maybe top ten but would explain aspects here
Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think that was the case. LA should definitely be on the list and prob Philly too. But if you look at their top 5 - it makes sense that they would only be looking at the cities - NY, Chicago, SF, Vegas, and Miami all have the lion's share of the high end shopping largely concentrated within the urban core. Definitely not the case with LA. I think it would be a more accurate study to at least include the urbanized area if not the metro area. It's weird though, when you look at the actual PDF report LA does actually appear on the list.

As far as Virgin Hotel goes:
"Sir Richard Branson's new hotel is being built out in the former Dearborn Bank Building, built in 1928. We're told that they will restore and recreate significant historic and architectural elements of the 27-story building."
Not sure how you're getting "hipster" out of that...

No one knows more then our NOLA..... You must realize.... she is a world traveler.... and makes no errors.... HOW DARE YOU....
I went through the LA profile listed in the report and noticed Beverly Hills gets a mention. So I guess JJL might have included the metro areas in its study.

And we already know the list is nonsense. There are 18 million people in the LA metro, and it has the second largest concentration of high end wealth on the planet, after NYC.
Where did you get that from?
London has the most wealth in the world. NYC is 2nd. LA isn't even in the top 10 though.
Personally I can usually see how much wealth there is in a city by looking at 2 things:
1. High end house and apartment rentals
2. High end escorts
The more of these there are, the wealthier and more "important" the city is.
Chicago isn't even close to LA in either of those two regards. Chicago isn't even close to Las Vegas or Miami either, but somewhere down there with Dallas or Houston. You can't live large in Chicago with the $50m penthouse apartments and pornstar escorts. You can however do that in: New York, LA, Miami and Las Vegas.
London has the most wealth in the world. NYC is 2nd. LA isn't even in the top 10 though.
NYC has nearly 2x the billionaires as London, no matter what London-based publications show. NYC has more billionaires and millionaires than the entire United Kingdom.

NYC has more wealth than the entire UK. There are more wealthy in NYC than in any city on earth. Even London is small potatoes in comparison.
And LA is in the top five cities globally in terms of wealth, and also probably ahead of London.
