Houston's murder rate for now is close to Chicago's. Chicago has 55 more homicides but also has 600,000 more people.

Crime seems to be cyclical. No city I am aware of is completely safe or completely dangerous. You could live in a dangerous city but because of lifestyle or neighborhood choices you could remain relatively safe.

Up until 6/9 of this year, there's been 174 homicides. Where do you get the stats for the last week? The official stats are always 1 week behind. Other sites like RedEye will count anything - including self defense and police induced shootings.

For Hispanics, that rate is around 15 murders per 100,000. Alot of Black gangs, alot of Hispanic gangs too.

The irony of this information is this. In 2013, the city with the highest Black murder rate in the USA was Omaha,Nebraska. A conservative city with a low unemployment rate, a low murder rate. However, Omaha's Black population has a murder rate of 46 murders per 100,000.

Report: Nebraska has 2nd-highest black homicide rate in U.S.; last year state was ranked 1st - Omaha.com: Crime & Courts

Interesting stuff. Omaha doesn't even have that high of a black population.

Maybe Omaha has high gang activities in the small black community.

Blacks make up 13.4 percent of Omaha's population, which reflects the nations average. Omaha sticks out to me for these reasons. Blacks make up 13.4% of the city's population. And according to many people here, cities that are conservative have lower rates of Black violence and lower rates of unemployment among Blacks, and less economic disparities. Omaha breaks this rule in so many ways. It is a conservative city. It has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. Its murder rate is low for a big city. And Omaha is 70% White and 12% Black. The Black murder rate in Omaha is around 46 murders per 100,000, compared to 31 murders per 100,000 for Chicago's Black population.

I read somewhere that in Omaha, 6 out of 10 African-American children live below the poverty line, and that the unemployment rate for Blacks is over 4 times higher than for Whites in Omaha. Omaha also ranked 2nd in high wealth gap between Blacks and Whites. This is what I've read. It makes me wonder what is going on in Omaha.

Also, things keeps changing over the years, so it leaves alot to wonder what is going on Omaha in 2015.

Boston might end the year with around 22-25 murders.

New Orleans is at least at 82. There have been some pretty impressive shootouts here lately.
