Good news--I believe part of it is that LA is a huge metropolitan area that was coming off a much higher than average unemployment rate for a major metro which it is now trying to pull down. Good news overall though.
It's very encouraging to see some slower growth areas start to reach more of an advanced stage of recovery. The fact that all US major/mid-sized metros are starting to see respectable job growth means that the national economy is definitely on strong footing.

Yep. It's because a lot of the freelance entertainment folks are categorized as "unemployed" between gigs and CA pays them for the days they claim "off." It's because of the entertainment industry being outsourced to other regions with higher tax incentives.
However, Silicon Beach is thriving which is why LA is posting such great numbers.
That's because he used the CSA for SLC. The SLC MSA area by itself added 18.5k jobs which is still a pretty good 2.9% growth rate. But the Provo MSA area, half the population of SLC, added 13k jobs which is a 6.3% growth rate. Ogden added another 9,700 which is a 4.3% growth rate.
