I wonder why that would happen in a Los Angeles forum??

Danger and fun are proportionally related.

Therefore, Vegas is more dangerous than LA.

The paradise getaway in the desert built by mobsters has become more dangerous since The Strip lost its mob ties and went corporate - go figure.
No, it isn't.

Paradise getaway? How much time are you outside most of the year in 100 plus heat?

How long can you toot blow and gamble in casinos in the middle of the desert until you get bored....like 2 hours. No thanks.
You mean walking around with a vodka and OJ after you lost all your money at 6am gets old? LOL.

LV has very safe areas (of course bad areas too), but Henderson is one of the safest cities in the entire United States and is a large part of the Vegas metro area. Vegas suburbs are also very clean - Summerlin, Anthem, Seven Hills, etc. etc. LA has more gangs, far more homeless people, and more gangs, including Skid Row. Gangs have infiltrated every neighborhood in LA, including Santa Monica.
DUH? Ya think?

Been to Vegas twice, after seeing the first couple of casinos the novelty wore off quickly.

Saw a armed robbery take place at a gas station from a distance during the day. Haven't seen that in LA.

Other than Red Rock Canyon didn't care for the place.

No reason to go again, but if I did it would only be in the winter months.

Now excuse me, have to duck down as gang members are driving by my house, you see they have infiltrated every neighborhood here.....

Keep the negative LV comments coming, just as Los Angeles experiences the largest homeless crisis in the nation, and six people packed into 2 bedroom apartments because the rent is so high, bringing down QoL in the buildings and surrounding areas. LA is only nice is you can afford a multi-million dollar mansion to get away from the hoards of people that infest the place I M O, so don't kill the messenger.

OK...sock puppet. How many names are you going to post under?

Not everyone just blew into LA in the last two years. Most people are in homes they have had for several years.

It's not just illegals living in crammed apts and multi-millionaires in mansions...but you know that.

You can keep Vegas, I never got the allure unless you like to go to casinos....I do not.

Vegas also has night clubs, and tons of regular bars and restaurants. It's not all about gambling. There are hundreds of thousands of locals and clearly there is stuff for them too.

That whole bar/nightclub/lounge scene starts getting really vapid and really played-out for most people after they hit about 28.

A lot of people want something more....

Museums, themed attractions, neighbors that stay around for more than 2 years, the opera, large book stores, eco-conscious groups, Shakespeare in the park, a wide breadth of universities and institutions, a variety of scenery and unlimited cultural experiences, the smell of ocean air, wholesome communities and activities that promote learning and academia, short drives to wineries, a socio-political climate that promotes social investment, science and research.

Those things either don't exist in Nevada, or they're on such a small scale as to be insignificant.

Vegas seems to primarily attract two kinds of people:

1.) The guy/gal who never mentally grew out of their 20s and want the 24/7 nightclub/bar/lounge scene and to make a "quick buck" and "show off" their beige stucco home in Summerlin or Henderson, or...

2.) The guys/gals who feel like they shouldn't have to pay taxes at a certain age and who don't believe that social investments make for a healthy society.

To each their own...

There are a number of museums around the arts district downtown, not the Strip, downtown. Granted we don't have a large art museum yet, but we're working on it. We're a new city and we're a lot smaller than LA, so sorry if we don't have LACMA yet. I'm not sure what themed attractions are, but there are a variety of outdoor activities around town - shopping, dining, etc. Red Rock, Mt. Charleston, and Lake Mead are all very close by. There is even a winery in Pahrump, again, sorry if it isn't Silver Oak. But that goes to Napa, not LA. We actually do have opera, and ballet, and The Smith Center, and Cabaret Jazz, and the Las Vegas Philharmonic. I have personally lived in the same neighborhood for 8 years, and only three houses on my street have turned over in that time. There are 16 total on my street. Science and research are on a smaller scale, but they're there and there are a number of tech companies locally based off of the 215, notably Switch, among others.

I know a lot of academics who live here, and have for a long time. You are stereotyping 2.3 million people into two categories. That's pretty myopic.

Also, for the people who "show off their beige stucco house" in Summerlin or Henderson, Google The Ridges, MacDonald Highlands, Tournament Hills, the custom homes on Red Arrow Drive in Red Rock, the custom area of Southern Highlands, Anthem, and Seven Hills. Far from "beige, stucco houses" to show off. This video is a good place to start:
