Orlando is a larger metro area and has one of the largest tourist attractions in the world. But I prefer Greenville's cooler climate and it's a very friendly place with a fantastic downtown area and excellent restaurants....I prefer Greenville over Orlando.
You've gotta be kidding me; Orlando's metro is almost three times as large with a much higher GDP, more developed downtown, an enormously larger tourism industry, a ton more retail, a busier airport, major league professional sports, etc. They are two very different cities/metros and in different leagues; that's not even debatable. I think they tend to attract different types of people, but both are friendly to retirees.
Its Orlando hands down, these cities are not really comparable in any way or form. Orlando is at least three times the size of Greenville and is a much more developed city in all aspects.
Here are a few points about Orlando:
Population count of 2,134,411 (According to 2010 Census)
- In addition to tourism, growing business sectors include high technology, biotechnology, medical research, healthcare, digital media arts, aerospace technology, military simulation and training, etc..
- New transportation systems being built and expanded (SunRail, Orlando Maglev, All Aboard Florida, etc)
- New stadiums being built and expanded (OCSC Stadium, Citrus Bowl renovations, etc.)
- New world class performing arts center (Dr. Phillips Center)
- 2nd Largest University by Student Enrollment (University of Central Florida)
- 2nd Busiest Airport in the State of Florida
- Thriving sports scene (NBA, MLS, NCAA, PGA, College Bowls, etc)
- Major commercial development throughout the city (I-Live Megaplex, Amway Center Megaplex, etc)
- Largest USTA national training center under construction
- New Medical City (VA Hospital, Nemours Childrens Hospital, UCF Medical School, Burnham Research Institute, etc)
Don't get me wrong its a decent match because Greenville does win in some categories like livability, jobs and cost of living, maybe even on location.. But I think Orlando is just the better of the two.

Livability is subjective, not sure how Greenville wins on jobs. It does win on COL. With location, just depends on what you like.
Greenville performs well within its tier, but going up against Orlando isnt' a fair fight in most categories. But the OP may like the change Greenville would give her/him.
