Birmingham for scenery (nice rolling hills)
Birmingham for shopping (Memphis is getting cheesecake factory and Ikea tho, so possibly a tie?)
Memphis for urban dense feel and things to do
Overall Memphis
Scenery: Birmingham
Proximity to other cities: Birmingham (closer to Nashville, Atlanta, gulf coast, Florida)
Shopping: Memphis
Safety: Tie, both cities have real crime problems
Food: Memphis
Future outlook: Memphis. Birmingham continues to shrink, the city is barely 200k people now, and let's not forget it was Jefferson county that declared bankruptcy about 4 years ago, Shelby county hasn't been there.
Memphis has the history of the blues, strong civil rights movement history, FedEx/UPS hub, it's a more international city with several businesses setting up their headquarters there, covers a tri state area, the Mississippi suburbs of Memphis are looking very prosperous, it has pro sports, a better airport, and nicer suburbs.
Birmingham has had slight gains in population over the last couple of years.
As for Memphis being an international city..LMAO
In terms of comparison. Memphis gets a slight edge due to it having a pro team. Otherwise its a dead heat.
According to Wikipedia (which pulls census information), the population of Memphis looks higher than it's ever been. Is that from population growth or annexation/consolidation?
I know that Birmingham is down significantly from its peak.

Memphis has lost population since the last census. The gains shown are from annexation. The only areas of the Memphis metro seeing growth are the affluent suburban areas of Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, and the northern Mississippi suburbs.
Because he has an opinion. Neither is a very nice place. I would take Memphis over Birmingham. Didn't Birmingham just have like twenty people shot in like three days? (Which would be a slow day for Memphis)

Everyone has an opinion, but I don't get what was the point if it didn't contribute to the thread. And twenty people shot in three days? lol idk, I'm not in Birmingham at the moment, that sounds like a statistic you see somewhere in Chicago.
