Dont feel bad if youre not on the list. It boils down to who is most likely to take a picture of themselves. Two-Thirds of IG users are women, most of whom are between 18-34 years old. lol

Cameras on phones have made it all too easy.

NYC

LA

Miami
----
Vegas
Chicago
----
San Francisco
Atlanta
Seattle
San Diego
Boston

What is interesting is cities not on this list, namely

Portland, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Detroit, St. Louis etc. They are all big cities (some bigger than others) but they are not popular among instagram users. Probably because there is not much to take pictures of in those cities.
It's probably because younger adults don't vacation in those cities. I can't ever recall seeing a Facebook post that said "Whooo!! Orlando trip in 3 days!!! FTW!!! #mickeymousehollaback #magickingdommitches #epcotcenteronfleek". Now if more 8-year olds had IG accounts, then it might be a different story.

Atlanta gets a lot of IG mentions because of all those stupid shows based there.

DC's social media popularity peaked in 2009 with the first Obama inauguration. There will never be that many celebrities and parties thrown by celebrities in DC ever again. For one weekend, DC got to know what it felt like to be LA or NYC.

Haha. No.

Howard Homecoming is not going to attract any non-Black celebrities. Jay-Z, Beyonce and Kayne West are now all too big for something like that. HBCU concerts are primarily for artists who are, in the words of Chris Rock, "black famous." So we're talking about people like Future, Travis Scott, Mike Epps, etc. You're not going to see Will and Jada, Brad and Angelina, Matt Damon, De Niro, Tiger, Oprah, Spielberg, etc. But those types of names were present at the 2008 inauguration.

Yeah, it was more a response to this idea "nothing worth taking pictures of" in other cities. D.C. is covered with renowned monuments likely more pictured than several of the other cities that made the top 10.

Top 10 Most popular cities by instagram posts

#nyc 42,184,347 - New York City
#la 32,034,926 - Los Angeles
#Miami 24,881,300 - Miami
#Vegas - 18,414,693 - Las Vegas
#Chicago 18,213,055 - Chicago
#Sanfrancisco 9,033,074 - San Francisco
#atl - 7,731,975 - Atlanta
#Seattle 7,504,111 - Seattle
#Sandiego 7,176,661 - San Diego
#boston 7,119,386 - Boston

This was only using each cities' most popular tag that wasn't so ambiguous(An example would be using "Sea" for Seattle" when that can be used for anyone close to a sea). #DC had over 7 million instagram posts and would be top 10, but a lot of the posts were for DC comics, so I decided not to include it.

Any surprises?
I'm surprised Chicago is so close to Vegas. Maybe people really are adhering to the "What happens in Vegas" mantra and aren't posting Vegas pics on social media. Doubt it. I would have thought that the Mayweather-Pacquaio fight alone would have blown the doors off.

Yeah, that didn't sound like a good reason. There's lots of cool stuff to photograph in DC. I just don't think the average 15-year old girl cares as much about the King Memorial as she does the TS 1989 concert tour.
