I agree, pnwguy2, about the subjective ruling. The tv news stations have their picks, but otherwise different cities seem to excel at different things. Having two or more cities with much better services in certain segments of an economy, like harbors for those by coasts, seems very likely to me.

Do you really love Boise?

maybe you're correct but there are a boatload of similar and larger cities that dont produce economically as much as Portland. If Portland's economic growth continues even at a 10% lower pace than it currently is it will take over both Denver and San Diego in just a few years.
