Say you had a visitor new to the South, and this visitor wanted to see the two slices of the South. The Deep South, along with the Upper South. Not necessarily bringing tourism into the picture, which two cities should this person visit? The best slice of the Deep South, and the best slice of the Upper South. The real deal, tourism isn't a factor. Any thoughts? Thought this would be an interesting thread.

I think the most popular and ideal upper south city is either Charlotte or Raleigh. When I think of upper south cities I think of North Carolina.

Deeper south: Birmingham or Savannah

For the Upper South, I was thinking of Winston-Salem, NC or possibly Richmond, VA. For the Deep South, possibly Savannah, GA.

You do have "delusions". Charlotte or Raleigh are not upper South.

Yes they are. As a whole, NC is an Upper South state (with only the eastern part sometimes included in the Deep South) and Charlotte and Raleigh are Piedmont cities in that Upper South state.

If they're not Upper South, what are they?
