lol I can't believe Houston is second only to NYC in this poll! This proves that polls like this on this site are worth nothing for the info they're trying to find out; only as a glimpse into the minds of the posters.
Of course, its Charleston, SC!! You must have forgotten to put it on the poll

I went with Detroit because of the automakers and industry. I think any industrial city would suffice though, I mean they are responsible for making this an industrial nation right?

I don't know enough about it to choose, but I would say, whatever city (I'm thinking west coast) had the most to do with all the technological advances made over the past several decades. We went from no computers at all, to ones so large they took up whole rooms, to now where almost every business and almost every home uses computer technology.

Probably Chicago or New York, considering their size. St. Louis is a big beer distributor, though. Beer is a big part of some people's lives.
Hard to say which city is most influential, since all have influenced the U.S. in some way.

(In contrast to what I said earlier, I think I would add SF second because of technology)

NYC and LA are way ahead of everything else. They are media capitals. They dictate what the nation reads, watches, listens to, etc.

Washington DC, hand down... how could you say anything else... I mean that city controls half the freaking world much less the US.
NY is very influential but DC is the ideal city, a city with high rises diversity doesn't make it more influential... Sure there is a ton of business there but It was DC vs Moscow during the cold war not Moscow vs NYC... Its DC vs Beijing... One Arab quoted 'DC is the capital of the world'
This has nothing to do with tourism, quality of life, or Prices... I Don't see how it could be any other city...but... to each his own...
