Back to the original subject I agree that New York should not be lumped in with New Jersey since this was city-based not state or regional based. I also agree that using album sales as the primary barometer of success in the music biz is becoming antiquated as on-demand streaming has now taken over. And the Internet has erased most of the differences in regional sounds so all the debates on which coast, state or region is dominant is pretty irrelevant now. Jay Electronica (New Orleans) sounds like he's from NY and Fetty Wap (Patterson, NJ) soulds like he's from the A so its whatever...
^^Agreed. It is foolish to put NJ & NY together. I feel they should have separated the boroughs .

Va Beach is incorrect. It should be listed as Tidewater, Hampton Roads or 757. Missy Elliot Portsmouth is not the same as Va Beach in anyway.The map on the link says Hampton Roads.

I'd argue that his first 2 studio albums were NY of the times. He was working with Live Squad, heavy then. Plus, he used NY slang (peace my g, son, word up, bucking people, etc). Me against the world is when he started really using the California sound more.

And what did E-40 do? Nothing. Tupac got shot in NY, Death Row got shot at in NY and fled the city, Suge's friend Jake Robles was shot when Death Row tried to fight with Puff Daddy's crew, Kevin Reed was shot outside Hot 97 and The Game blamed 50 Cent. Lmfao.
