Worst poll in the history of C-D?

Miami, possibly the most famous beaches in the U.S. vs. Gary, possibly the worst city in the U.S. (and with giant steel mills regularly dumping waste into the frequently unswimmable "glorious" local beaches).

Watch out Maui, here comes Gary, a beach honeymoon delight!

You can't make a fair comparison between the two.
This is not true...the National Park includes miles and miles of Gary lakefront. In fact the largest population center in the entire Dunes is the Miller Beach neighborhood of Gary which is surrounded on all four sides by the National Park. And the Dunes that stretch to the east of gary are technically in the Gary subdivision of the Chicago metro. If Miami can claim Miami Beach, a separate city as far as I understand, Gary canclaim the Dunes..as well as can Chicago.

You do realize that Lake Michigan has very dynamic currents and that the entire southern half of the Lake has the same water quality? And it is the DRINKING WATER for millions of area residents...Chicag and Gary included. So you'll drink Chicago tap water but won't swim in lake Michigan? See a psychiatrist.

How about view? Gary's ain't too shabby

I have been to Miami a dozen times...but honestly prefer the Dunes. I know plenty of others including a French friend who lived in Miami Beach for several years and after visiting the Dunes totally concurred.

I'd take the warm, Caribbean-like waters and tropical-like atmosphere in Miami/many other places in South Florida over pretty much any other US mainland beach any day. I'm a sucker for tropical-like conditions - warm, nice blue water, nice sand, palm trees, warmth overall.
Come visit us on a sultry August day when the water temps can get very warm. I love the changes in the lake from season to season. Even year to year is different.

The shelf ice can be ridiculously beautiful.....certainly more than Miami's!

I imagine they filter and clean the water...? I imagine it's not straight from the lake?...

Miami's beaches are so much about people watching, sunbathing and exposed bodies. I don't imagine that the beaches in Gary really have much of that but I might be wrong. I would think the people watching beaches in the area would be more those in downtown and northside Chicago.
