Chattanooga vs Knoxville is probably more of a rivalry.

Note also that it's not really a "last few years" thing. Toronto's ascent at the expense of Montreal began in the 1970s and continued into the 1980s and 1990s. If anything, things have stabilized a bit in the last few years.

From things I have read over the years, the Quebec Separatist movement might have inadvertently started the decline of Montreal and ascent of Toronto. The uncertainty of Montreal's place in Canada led to many businesses forsaking Montreal and many Anglophones leaving as well.

Quebec and Montreal are what makes Canada actually interesting.

Really hope it always keeps maintaining it's French identity. Much worse for society for it to lose that than separate from Canada.

How would teaching geography make people in LA want to rival with other cities? People in LA think that type of thing is a stupid waste of time.

Everyone else may not, but LA does.

pretty sure people know other cities exist, but it's just petty to talk ish about other cities. That's why most people don't think we have a rival, because who the f cares. LA does its own thing and isn't really influenced by anybody except the Bay. And that's a sports rivalry.
