I'm surprised DFW versus Houston has been brought up so many times but no one has mention Dallas and Fort Worth.
Honestly, D vs FW seems more relevant than DFW vs H. Not a comment on which pair of cities/metros (since the CB divides the MSA into two sides) are closer in size, but rather what seems to come up more often in RL. Despite the DFW vs H rivalry being one of the better know city rivalries, most people in both metros hardly have thoughts of the other metro, much less negative thoughts. People just know that its a thing. On the other hand, people on the Dallas side of the metro have stronger opinions of the Fort Worth side than of Houston, more skin to an actual rivalry, and the reverse is true too (flip Dallas and Fort Worth in the sentence). Local media in Dallas also seems to care as much about its rivalry with Houston.
That said, DFW vs Houston seems to have one thing going for it, both sides largely acknowledge each other as equals. Why is it that for the vast majority of city rivalries, they are so one sided?
Never found a real sense of rivalry between the two cities when I lived in DFW. It always seemed like Dallas wasn't really concerned with Ft. Worth, and Ft. Worth didn't really hate Dallas, just the fact that outsiders didn't recognize them as anything more than a large suburb of Dallas.
Now Dallas and Houston I've definitely seen, just check out the Texas forum, or go to a Cowboys-Texans game, or a Mavs-Rockets game.
BOSTON vs. PHILLY
Boston is the smaller city but the central force in its region and has a thriving economy. It has a more white collar and "clean" feel. Seems to have a larger national presence than Philly and leads the U.S. in several major economic sectors.
Philly is larger but overshadowed by NYC and D.C. and is only recently after a half century picking up its economy. It's the ultimate blue collar city and has developed a reputation as dirty and crime-infested (somewhat legitimate but largely false stereotyping). It has a grittier feel and largely flies under the radar on the national level (though that is changing).
Both have long and well-known histories in the development of the U.S. Boston is the best city in the U.S. for higher education with Philly likely second. There are many more comparisons that could be made.
In my mind, Philadelphia is like the established older brother that gets overshadowed by his flashier, slightly more successful younger brother while still holding his own and doing his thing successfully.
1. celtics/lakers
2. red sox/yankees
3. pats/colts ?
4. bruins/montreal
Wow! You'd put pats/colts above bruins/habs even though you don't know if it's an actual rivalry?!
And celtics/lakers over red sox/yankees?!
I have to disagree.

And no. At least from Boston's side of things, we really don't have a rivalry with Philly.
In fact as far as the Mid-Atlantic cities go (DC, Baltimore, and Philly) I'd say the Baltimore Ravens would be the most disliked sports team in Boston out of all the teams down that way.
On the Philly side of things, Philly doesn't have a rivalry with Boston. The only sports rivalry that we ever had with Boston is the Sixers/Celtics rivalry.

This is a good post, however, Boston would be the older brother.

It's full of pathos, rancor, ridiculous boasts, myriad, moronic contrasts and comparisons, and, most importantly, more trolls, boosters and homers than one has fingers and toes.
