Under the terms set by the OP, LA vs SF/The Bay, doesn't count. No one in LA is aware of such rivalry, it's pretty much all one direction.
It always seems to me that the "larger city" within a city rivalry will go to great lengths to deny that it exists. It's as if it's beneath them to admit the rivalry exists or somehow comparing ones city to a smaller city is insulting. The classic example of efforts to blunt this sort of situation comes from New Yorkers who often make statements here on C-D that there is no comparison to NYC.

You have a point but in NYC's case, it's pretty much true as far as American cities go. Outside of sports, any kind of "rivalry" with NYC is pretty much one-sided. You might be able to make an argument for LA, but that's about it.

Some NYers seem a little mad when Boston got GE over them //www.city-data.com/forum/new-y...-boston-6.html
And I'm not going to even go into how mad SF/LA media people were when Boston won (then rejected) the 2024 American Olympic bid. There were some nasty op-eds, specifically in the LA Times
Then there is Memphis and Nashville. I think Nashville looks down their noses at Memphis and that is a little irritating although I would live in Nashville any day before I would go back to Memphis.
Everytime I'm in Atlanta I hear people from NYC brag on their city and how Atlanta is inferior. I guess there might be a rivalry or a big bully syndrome there.

Those aren't the same as an ongoing rivalry. GE was looking at multiple sites and the Olympic bid is a specialized competition that occurs once every few years, and the same cities don't always submit bids.

Correct. The only legit rivalry between San Francisco/the Bay Area and Los Angeles is between the Dodgers and the Giants. Other than that, it's definitely one-sided, with people up north always talking smack and having something to say about Los Angeles. Same goes for San Diego.
I don't see any rivalry between Los Angeles and New York.

where the hell have you been?
Both are centers of entertainment in the US and the world for that matter. NY thinks that they are better because of the theatre, LA thinks its better because of the movies.
The only rivalry here is between one obnoxious homer and logic.
What do you mean?
