Three cities known to be home of rich folks.
How would you compare them in terms of:
Politics
Type of resident(young money/old money)
Relationship with nearby city( Beverly Hills/LA, Scottsdale/Phoenix, Palm Beach/Miami):
Amenities
types of residents: Both Old & Young. It's hard to say which way it swings.
Relatinship w/ nearby city. Surrounded by the City of Los Angeles. Most would consider it a part of LA even though they have there own police dept, schools, etc.
Amenities: Amazing. They don't call everywhere else's rich enclaves the Beverly Hills of--insert here-- for nothing.
Politics: "Limosine" Liberal... North Scottsdale is pretty conservative while South Scottsdale is liberal. But when in terms of being liberal I think it's that type of liberal.
Type of Residents: Young money most definitely...
Relationship with Phoenix is close. You cannot tell the difference between the two right at the borders as some of Scottsdale's wealthiness extends across the border into Phoenix. However you know when you're in Scottsdale when you see brand-new Corvettes... Phoenix's east border has the money as well.
Amenities: Pretty good. Scottsdale offers the best nightlife and restaurant options in the whole metro. Scottsdale is also the home to most of the golf courses in the metro and has the best hiking options like Camelback. Being next to the reservation also provides the amenities of the casino being right there, which is a plus the other suburbs don't have. Scottsdale also has the best shopping I would say, and the best scenery due to the mountains that many live on.
The median age in Scottsdale is lower than Beverly Hills though
Anyways I would say
1. Scottsdale
2. Beverly Hills
3. Palm Beach
As :-D said Scottsdale is really conservative, but with the influx of Southern Californians moving into the city alongside younger people who have moved here for work, it is becoming more and more liberal.
Scottsdale is a mix of old and new money, although it has more new/young money...if you wana see old money go to Paradise Valley which shares a boarder with scottsdale.
As said before it's really hard to tell the difference between East Phoenix and Central Scottsdale, very similar culture, nightlife, and both areas are full of luxury shopping malls, resorts, and nice restaurants.
Scottsdale does not have the most golf or the best hiking. Camelback is in Phoenix (as is the Phoenician)
Scottsdale is tall and skinny. I would say more new money than old, but also not completely prohibitive to those who aren't rich. Wide range of political attitudes
i've been to all of them.
I actually lived pretty close to Beverly Hills. I don't see Scottsdale as a retirement community, i actually found it younger than Beverly Hills. Palm Beach is a bit older, similar to places like Boca Raton and Aventura
