Looking to leave Minneapolis and head back to the east coast. Haven't found a job yet. but i can't decide between these metros(Listed below). Which one is best for me based on the following criteria?

Cost of living, Daycare/preschool costs, safety, Job market, colleges(looking to go back to school), walkability( like to walk to the nearest corner store/bodega), public transportation, fun things to do with kids and grown ups(comedy shows, concerts, plays, amusement parks, bars,), black middle class suburbs.

1. Philadelphia/Delaware. Closest to family and friends

2. DMV

3. Baltimore-

4 Charlotte

5. Hampton roads Va (that's a last resort)

Number 1 sir. Seems like you are leaning that way as is. DMV is brutally expensive so No. Charlotte by any other measure would be find as long as your family and friends aren't a necessity and would be a nice place as well.

I have to concur. The Delaware Valley (name for the Philadelphia metro) has everything you're looking for at a cheaper cost than the DMV. Baltimore might possibly be cheaper, but it's a noticeable downgrade in amenities, jobs, etc. (unless you factor in D.C., but then you need to pile on transportation costs to do the Bmore living, DC work/play thing, which will negate that advantage). From what I hear, Charlotte doesn't have great walkability and/or bodegas. And having lived in Hampton, VA, while the area is a nice, solid mid-tier metro, it's definitely below the other four areas in your categories. I think you should go with the Delaware Valley, as you state that is closest to family and friends, which is a significant factor often discounted on this forum.

This a hard one....

COL....cancels out DMV

Walkability....cancels out Hampton Roads

Public transportation....cancels out Charlotte and Hampton Roads

I would recommend Atlanta. It has just about all that you are looking for
