DFW is a massive area that covers a lot of land with a consistent density for many many miles. It's just not going to happen in the metro. More likely in Central Dallas at some point.
Still, we shouldn't continue to expand DFW outward. There's gross inequality between the southern half of the metro compared to the northern half and eventually we're going to run into fiscal and environmental issues (if not already). The madness has got to end. We may not be able to decrease car dependency in the DFW suburbs; however, we can put an end to the endless expansion.
Do you think that many people would be riding MARTA if it wasn't getting them where they need to go?
The rail system is more limited and has less stops and hasn't been expanded in many years. I also think Marta serves a community that probably relies more on public transportation. Atlanta like Dallas likes cars and if someone has their own means of transport, they would not leave that parked to just ride MARTA.
You have had issues with giving Atlanta credit for anything since you've left. No need to turn this into a pissing contest, we do do some things right here.
Why would I give ATL credit for MARTA? It didn't impress me when I lived there either.

I doubt that will happen given the large and expanding job centers in the mega burbs.

But MARTA has greater capacity and hits several critical areas of Atlanta, including the airport. If you don't think people leave their cars parked to ride MARTA, then you've never witnessed how slam packed the parking deck at the North Springs station gets in the morning. And we're not talking about a bunch of working-class people with no other means to get around.
I can tell you didn't utilize MARTA much, if at all, when you lived in Atlanta.
MARTA has half the track but more than twice the ridership of DART. Dallas also has 1.5 million more people than Atlanta. That's all that really needs to be said when it comes to determining which system better serves its community.
You obviously never rode MARTA then. Even with half the track miles, it makes DART look like a joke in comparison.
I think I know what your issues with MARTA and Atlanta are, but I won't go there.
oh, I definitely rode it. After a crazed rider called security on me saying I kicked them and then screaming that I owed them money and dealing with other sketchiness, I decided never again. I rode DART to work for over 6 years and never had one incident.
Anybody who claims Atlanta's road system is better than anything outside of Lagos, Nigeria, is out of his mind. Atlanta's system is just an ill-planned mess.
