Yes, that's very sad that that happened and luckily more of an isolated incident. How does the commuter rail in ATL compare to the lines in DFW? oh, wait...

Atlanta road system is built literally like all metros roads system on east coast states outside of Florida

DC, Philly, Boston, Baltimore, NY, Virginia Beach, Richmond, Pittsburgh, Provence, Raliegh and Charlotte suburban road systems are built like Atlanta.

West of the Appalachians Metros like Chicago, Houston, DFW, Denver, Seattle and etc area where largely built in a grid with way more Highways.

DFW is two cities the fact that only a commuter rail connect them is bad.

Seattle has a grid with more highways? No, there's always a hill or water in the way. We have relatively few highways or arterials. Most older neighborhoods have grids but they often get broken by topography.

MARTA is superior system to DART

With that said, I think OP posting "Dallas is too car-centric" was too much..... Dallas does have urban areas and doesn't get enough credit for it Similar to Atlanta and other large Sunbelt cities don't get enough credit. Don't throw Dallas under the Bus to appease the sunbelt hating trolls.

Atlanta doesn't have a designated commuter rail system but MARTA acts as such along certain stretches, just as DART effectively acts as such at certain points.

I didn't mean perfect. And I wasn't talking about city proper but the greater metro areas.

But Seattle Metro largely form grids. You can see the squares even going toward rural areas

DFW

Chicago

LA

Metro areas not a grid

The Northeast and Piedmont metro areas did not form in a grid. It's of a more of spoke and wheels.

NY

Philly

DC

ATL

Thank you. This is exactly what my point is. People downplay Dallas' current state for some odd reason.
We just over here rollin' our eyes.

How many rail lines are needed if you are going from downtown Dallas to downtown FW? The new commuter line in Tarrant county will connect FW to DFW airport as the Cotton Belt will connect Plano to DFW airport and the A-Train connects Denton to Dallas. That's not too bad as far as commuter rail goes.
