I'm looking to move from Austin back to the west coast and this time I have my sights set on Sacramento...
What I want to know is the cost of living really that much more in Sac than it would be Austin considering everything, such as salary increases, property taxes, utilities, etc?

My opinion would be that it's pretty much comenserate considering Texas has high property taxes, and California has high income taxes. Texas has more extreme weather that requires constant heating or cooling, and California has a more mild climate, and while it does get hot in Sac during the day it generally cools down at night with the delta breeze, and winters are more mild, all of which is easier on your wallet because you're not heating and cooling constantly. Salaries in Texas are low, whereas salaries in California are generally higher.

Would those of you who live in Sac agree? Am I missing the mark on anything?

Thanks!

Do people really not know that this very website (City-Data) offers a pretty comprehensive Cost of Living calculator?
