Here are some notes on my home city Houston. The largest immigrant groups are:

1) Mexico: 7,581 (2nd in the US)
2) India: 2,694 (7th in the US)
3) Vietnam: 2,095 (3rd in the US)
4) China: 1,733 (8th in the US)
5) El Salvador: 1,599 (4th in the US)
6) Nigeria: 1,477 (2nd in the US)
7) Cuba: 1,332 (3rd in the US)
8) Pakistan: 1,264 (3rd in the US)
9) Philippines: 874 (13th in the US)
10) Colombia: 734 (3rd in the US)

A couple of smaller metros, like St. Louis have a higher share of European immigrants relative to overall immigrant population, but that's because they receive few immigrants overall. St. Louis gets a lot of Bosnians. Detroit is probably #2 after NYC for Albanians and Romanians.

Of course, European immigration to the U.S. isn't that huge. If NYC receives (in a good year) 20k European immigrants, it will receive 80k immigrants from Latin America and 80k+ immigrants from Asia. Asia is the main source these days.

Are these numbers related to legal immigration only or illegal immigration too?

Interesting. I know it's far behind Miami and New York? But still wouldn't have guessed it to be 3rd.

The numbers are from the Department of Immigration so there is no measure of illegal immigration for these.
