I live in CS and I consider what else would be a nice place to live if I would have a remote job.
Mountains are very desirable. The ocean even in 2-3 hours of driving would be great. And IT world somewhere near could be good also to attend conferences or meet some people.
So, I found Lake Tahoe is such a place. What do you think?

I am not sure about the schools, cost of living, etc

I promise you Lake Tahoe is the place for skiing/snowboarding, hiking, swimming, etc. South Lake Tahoe is not only a beautiful place for recreation but also for a small nice city with great food and people. Housing is fairly cheap and schools are exceptional. Unless you need to be in the city, I recommend a cabin in one of the smaller towns. Cheaper, quieter, but it does require time to drive in the city.
