In NYC right now but just gotta letter to choose which city to choose for a job anywhere in NY State (Civil Service job after 6 years! LOL)

I am tired of NYC, but would like a place of good public transportation and a lot of people.
point is to own a home or apt. but hate driving but ok with it.
Thanks

Because it is a state job do they pay the same wherever you are? Because if so Rochester ir Buffalo would 110% be superior to NYC.

downstate (NYC) area is noted would be + $3000.
Midhudson is +$1500
this job pays $52k so not getting +$3000 wouldnt be a big deal.

Do you have a choice between these locations? I would say that Buffalo, which has a rail line, along with buses, may be the first city to consider. There are nice neighborhoods that straddle Main Street, but continue to the west of the street. Main Street is where the subway/rail line is located.

Apart from NYC since you live there have you ever been to any of the other places first hand to see which you like better? I definitely get being tired of the NYC thing. I lived there for 12 years and as cool of a city as it is the prices get to you after a while. If you are looking to own I'd look outside the city for sure but as I've never been to any of the places you mention I couldn't recommend you which one. I definitely know just looking at real estate sites, homes are considerably cheaper upstate.
