Obviously NYC, LA, and Chicago are the three most superior/elite/world class cities in the USA. The fourth is up for debate between DC and San Francisco. So when comparing San Francisco to Canada's most superior/elite/world class city who wins?

NYC, then a debate depending what aspects you're talking about.

San Francisco is almost as big as Chicago, and more influential and interesting in some ways. Chicago is a great city of course and might be #2. LA is high up but more about quantity than quality vs. world-class cities. DC is the top political capital in the world. Toronto would be anywhere from #2 overall to four or five spots below that depending what you're counting.

Definitely SF. I would put Toronto just behind SF and just above Boston in terms of Superiority.

What a joke. I don't even consider Toronto the second greatest city in Canada - Vancouver is a far cry more scenic, interesting and diverse, and Montreal more wordly. San Francisco, meanwhile, consistently makes a run at the top city in America, and is one of the world's most spectacular and unique places. When you talk about physical beauty, things to do within driving distance, beaches, commerce, weather sports, it isn't even worth comparing them. San Francisco, hands down.

Vancouver basically has two races: White and Asain, that's not diverse, especially by North American standards... just as Baltimore is not diverse. I do have to agree with you, Vancouver is by far the better city of the two (Toronto and Van).

What's that got to do with anything? It's still better than SF, even if it's only the third best in Canada.

Superior in what way? Toronto is bigger, more diverse, more cosmopolitan, much bigger skyline, is the financial and media capital of Canada, has a denser core and metro area, and more expansive and highly utilized transit.

SF is more scenic and pretty, more "touristy", has better weather (sort of), more beautiful surroundings, is richer and more expensive to rent or purchase property in, and dominates the tech world.

Both cities are liberal and very gay friendly and have lots of homeless people and strange characters. Both have great food, (SF better high end dining, TO better cheap ethnic and mid range eats). Both have good museums and strong arts and cultural scenes, and both also had a thriving hippie/countercultural scene in the 60s and early 70s which still resonates to this day.

For an overall big city experience, Toronto is superior.

To make money and take in the natural beauty of the city and surrounding area, SF is superior.
