Which of these three have the best downtown areas??

For me it's,

1. Charleston
2. Columbia
3. Greenville

Thoughts?

Best meaning urban layout and amenities.

keep in mind this person said Greenville's downtown is similar to the small town of Rocky Mount, NC.

seems kind of improbable that he's been to Greenville.

they are all nice downtowns, although much different. I've actually lived in all 3 of these cities.

Greenville downtown is quite nice buts its only really one or two main streets.I really enjoyed Reedy Falls and the park.A great wasy to grow a small city with some urbanity.
Charleston however is so much bigger and has a beach.

Have not been in Columbia in 20 years and no plans to go soon.It is a center of government and a big university so I would suppose its as nice as Greeenville in doing the best of what its got.
1)Charleston
2)Greenville/Columbia

No kidding. Greenville outranks Charleston? I don't think so.
Greenville has done a good job of revitalizing their downtown, though.

Yeah they really have, but clearly it's not on Charleston's level.

Columbia's downtown also isn't nearly as shabby as some here have indicated. It has come a long way in a short period of time.

If Charleston wasn't at the beach, it would be viewed in a similar way as Richmond. I find it a rough looking city with a good number of buildings that should be torn down but they don't tear down anything even if the building is nothing special, due to the 'historic preservation. Greenville has some old renovated buildings but a lot more modern buildings.

Greenville is much more athestically pleasing with a tree canopy over the street and the restaurants have more rsidewalk seating.

and Greenville has a much better park with a 30 foot water and a massive architecturally interesting pedestrian bridge. Spokane is the only city that I have knowledge of that has a nice park around a waterfall.

I got tired of hearing about the civil war and slavery when I lived in Charleston.

there are a ton of college kids and tourists in downtown Charleston which I did not find appealing.

people who say Charleston is better prefer the beach to the mountains. Greenville is obviousy better if you like the mountains and whitewater boating, and there are 3 pristine lakes with clear water at the base of the mountains.

Charleston's downtown is more spread out than Greenville's, its restaurant / museum / tourist does not seem much bigger than Gville and parking can be a pain. The baseball stadium on the opposite side of the peninsula with no restaurants around it. its best park in my view is the park at the battery and that is good distance away from Market Street. the is not a large arena in the downtown area similar to bon secours wellness center in Gville.

a good portion of Charleston's downtown is eaten up by the ugly MUSC hospital buildings. I like that Greenville hospital is 3 miles away.

I prefer Greenville's setup. restaurants, retail, a top 10 park in the nation according to at least one website, baseball stadium, arena, library, museem all close together, with a zoo nearby and another nice park around it.

also don't like one way streets, and Charleston's most famous road is King Street, a one way street. The baseball stadium on the opposite side of the peninsula with no restaurants around it.

people who say Greenville downtown is small rarely venture off Main Street, to the zoo for example which is part of downtown, and if we include residential areas around it as downtown, as is done with Charleston, and consider the boundary of downtown to be the hospital, I think it is as big.
