I was born in 1991 (I'm 25), whether Black (alone) or Black (in combination of 1 or more races), Atlanta has always been #1 under the sun in Black population growth, until 2015 happened that is.
What is truly weird as hell for me is how in 2015 Atlanta's Black population is growing slower than it was in 2014. What gives? In 2015, Atlanta's economy was leagues better than it was in 2014. So I don't know what gives, honestly. Maybe a down year for Black population growth in Greater Atlanta - those tend to happen every now and then. Because overall, Greater Atlanta posted bigger population gains total in 2015 than 2014, just not for the Black (alone) population.
I think the 2015 figure is a lagging indicator related to the economy; as I stated elsewhere, I think last year was probably the first since the recession that you began to noticeably see the economic gains Atlanta was making. In a similar fashion but on the opposite end, Black growth was still high when Atlanta's economy was obviously in the doldrums.
Been saying this for the past decade. DFW's black population has grown faster than Houston's for the better part of the last 25 years if not more. The gap between the two has been closing more and more every year.
Black growth has usually been a major engine for the Atlanta area's growth over the last 2-3 decades, but now it seems based on these numbers, non-black growth in Atlanta is accelerating while black growth is stagnant or even declining.

Pretty Surprising.
In a CSA of over 18 million, that's pretty despicable.
