I like how GWAC has a clear, objective methodology. But, it is basically a measure of the prevelence of advanced product services. Not a bad way to measure private sector influence on the global economy.
But, I believe world class city is a broader, more subjective concept. For example, GaWC puts Atlanta above Berlin.
In my opinion, a true world class city would combine: 1) political, economic, and social influence and 2) world class urban core.
For sake of clarity, I'd like to see you guys weigh in on the following cities:
Berlin
Madrid
Seoul
Moscow
Sydney
Amsterdam
All are first ballot World Classers.
Most of the American cities being brought up in this thread (i.e. Seattle, Boston, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, so on), however, are not IMO.

I think many American cities are "world" cities or "global cities" due to their large international population and economic ties with cities around the world. But the keyword here is CLASS. World CLASS. Just because a city is a global city, does not mean it's world class. I think at minimum a city should be a global city in order to be considered world class, but it goes beyond just the economy. Think art, museums, public spaces, universities, innovation, culture, livability, etc.
That's only because hollywood does a good job at making its home look a lot nicer than it really is. Sort of like people using a ton of filters on IG to make themselves appear better looking than they really are lol.
LA ranks in at #1 for the most disappointing/biggest let down travel destination to vacationers. Tourists come to LA expecting what they see in films, then are highly disappointed once they actually visit LA.
That is such crap. Hollywood shows both sides of la and has done so for decades.

Amsterdam is a little too crappy to be considered world class, in my opinion. :-)
you said the top 5 have nearly double the airliners than the rest without posting any evidence.
marothisu posted information where a few non top 5 cities have more destinations than a few of the top 5. the airports with the higher destinations probably have more airliners.
