I feel like these two metros are very similar yet at the same time very different. The are similar in metro population and overall layout. However they are very different in culture and history. I'm wondering which is the best overall based on the following criteria.
1. Downtown
2. Walkability
3. Nightlife
4. Bars and Restaurants
5. Traffic
6. Economy
7. Weather
8. Suburbs
9. Friendliness
10. Scenery
11. Architecture
12. Where would you rather live

I voted for San Antonio the city that just celebrated it's 300 birthday this year! It wins on every point except traffic which Indianapolis takes due to the fact that it's a smaller metro and isn't a part of a bigger region like SA-Austin (4.5 million inhabitants) which is experiencing a crazy population boom where traffic has significantly gotten worse. Indianapolis has a great downtown and the layout of the city center is excellent by the way.

The city populations are almost the same and the metros are within 400,000. Austin is a little far away from SA to have any real bearing on traffic, it would be like blaming Cincinnati for Indy traffic.

Anywho, I don't really have anything to add other then San Antonio is way too hot and I wouldn't live there for that reason alone.

I much prefer San Antonio over Indianapolis. Although, Indianapolis over the years has had a better economy a majority of the time it seems.

Indianapolis likely also wins in a few other categories like health care, infrastructure and summer weather.

San Antonio though is known for having a very strong downtown at street level with the Riverwalk but the skyline is very small.

Even though I rarely go to restaurants, San Antonio also is likely one of the best in the country for restaurant selection. Amazing the number of restaurants for a city of it's size.

San Antonio is one of more scenic cities in the country as much of it and adjacent suburbs are very hilly and it historically has been the 2nd largest city in Texas so it has lots of historic areas.
