I would rather compare the Greater Miami area with the Greater San Francisco Area (the San Francisco Bay Area), since Miami's metro has about 6 million and San Francisco metro has about 7.6 million.
They're both big cities, but San Francisco is bigger and has more industry and larger higher tech base. Miami is more of a financial center, with many Latin American doing business in Miami and using Miami as a base to do business with the United States. Miami area also has more skyscrapers than the San Francisco area, and it looks as if Miami continues to build more. San Francisco is just a small part of the San Francisco metro area. Maybe you should compare San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale, which would be more equivalent cities.
LMAO. Compare SAN Francisco with Fort Lauderdale would be more equivalent? Your joking right? San Francisco destroys Miami on every level except beaches/nightlife. Shopping Miami gets a slight edge and it isn't much.

What exactly does the Bay Area beat South Florida in other than the economy? Destroys on every level? I can't wait to hear this one. Let me guess you're going to say college? What else.

Yeah, besides tech jobs, how does SF DESTROY Miami? I live directly on key biscayne in Miami Beach and literally have not shut my balcony door in 3-4 months except one day where we got bad rain. San Fran politics would be an authentic magic dosqualifier

SF has a lot of jobs in general, not just tech jobs. It's kind of revving on a lot of economic cylinders and its economy is highly diversified with tech jobs maybe comprising a bit over 10% of jobs. The city is host to a lot of major corporations (just look at this incomplete list for just the city alone) that people don't generally consider "tech" as well as a lot of research institutes and the seat of California's judiciary branch. Plus, it has a really strong tourism sector.
The topography and architecture can also be somewhat interesting.
The people there are generally a lot better educated than those in Miami, so that might be appealing to some.
For me personally though, I'd much rather live in Miami on a high income than San Jose.

If you have money, don't need to work, and like the beach/warm weather lifestyle Miami is way better. The Bay Area is great for career/job opportunities and city/urban life or access to it with Sf. Personally I'd take the tropical vacation lifestyle of Miami if I could but I looked into years ago and found very little in the way of job opportunities, especially if you don't speak Spanish. If you're Latino and don't speak Spanish, people in Miami are pretty f-in rude to you.
