Hi guys! I will be graduating in a year, so I'm starting to look at cities to live. I know these four cities are different geographically, but I'd like to see what place is the best for a single college grad and why. As for jobs, I'll be looking at the AD/PR and film industries.
Important factors:
1. Nightlife
2. Cost of living (800-1000 rent for 1BD no roommates)
3. Diversity
4. Liberal
5. Friendly residents
6. Safety
Not so important factors:
1. Transportation (I prefer to drive)
2. Weather (I can adapt)

Your list is going to depend on where in the Valley you end up living...with the "Liberal" and "Diversity" triggers...Downtown Phoenix, Central Corridor, maybe South Scottsdale or Tempe.
The rest of it...once you have it narrowed down and know where you are going to be working...is subjective. City Data also has a demographics engine to help comparing crime rates, racial make up, etc: Phoenix

If you want film industries, Atlanta would be your #1 choice, then probably Austin. After North Carolina got rid of their film tax credit or greatly reduced it, GA took all of their film and TV production business and has bascially become Hollywood East, with tons of film and TV series shot in and around Atlanta and throughout the state.

Graduating in a year! Congrats on being a great planner. Heading into my senior year at ASU, there were definitely other priorities on my mind than where I would be living in a year.
Sorry I don't have anything to add to your actual questions other than enjoy your last year of school without worrying too much about where you will end up in a year.
I'm thinking Atlanta might best meet your needs. COL is lower, more "diversity" and more left leaning. I haven't been through Tampa in at least thirty years, so I can't speak for the overall friendliness of the residents. I'd say Austin/PHX/Atlanta would be a wash in that category. Although walking around in a Bernie shirt would make you more friends in Austin than anywhere else. Atlanta? Maybe a Hillary shirt lol. Seattle might also be a decent choice if you're able to increase your rental expectation. Any reason you're not looking at SoCal?

I'd say wherever you can get a decent job. If it were me, I would target the job first, but that's just me.

Another day, another newbie. They come one right after another. Once one thread runs its course, the next one coincidentally shows up right after that, and the prior one never comes back.
Weird choice of cities if you want "diverse" liberal enclaves. Atlanta sounds like it would fit the "diverse" requirement.
You should post this in the city vs city forum here on City-Data. You'd get answers from people who live in each city, and even some from posters who have lived in all of the cities you mentioned. Here on the PHX forum you're going to just get answers from Phoenicians only.

Yup. Phoenix is too close to LA to support a robust production industry locally. Nothing even close to major league work in Tampa either. Austin probably gets a fair amount of work although I'm not too sure it's all that steady. (even by production workers standards ). My guess is behind LA, NYC and Chicago more work is being done in ATL than anywhere else in the country.
